A special painting competition and exhibition was hosted at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University on Monday, in honor of Children’s Day. All the paintings were created by youngsters who have been hospitalized over the past seven years.

A special mailbox has been installed at the exhibition, where children can send encouraging messages to hospitalized peers on postcards. The hospital will distribute these postcards in the wards.

“It is a special Children’s Day this year due to the novel coronavirus epidemic, so many activities are also launched online,” said Dr Xu Hong from Children’s Hospital of Fudan University. “We invited teachers to offer online painting courses for hospitalized children to encourage them to express their feelings and emotion through paintings.”

“The epidemic also forces many children to stay at home for online schooling for months. We invited professionals in psychology and social work to view these paintings to evaluate children’s mental status and offer intervention whenever detecting problems.”
