The China-Mauritius Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine, established by a local TCM hospital and a Mauritius counterpart, was honored as an excellent example of the “Healthy Shanghai” project for its achievements in promoting TCM in Road and Belt regions.

The first TCM center in Africa was set up by the Shanghai Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine and City Clinic in Mauritius. It has achieved great effects since it was established a year ago and won recognition from local residents, officials said.

The center, with two TCM experts from Yueyang majoring in tuina massage and acupuncture, boosted the international development of TCM. It receives about 30 patients a day and has had a good response from patients and the local government, Yueyang officials said.

The center was also invited by the local government to participate in coronavirus prevention and control in Mauritius.

“Our experts in the center immediately contacted Yueyang's medical staff in the medical team working in the front line of coronavirus in Wuhan and offered lectures on coronavirus prevention to local government officials and residents. They also offered TCM measures such as physical exercises, herbal prescriptions and health-care diets to guide people to improve their health,” said Dr Zhou Jia, Yueuang’s president.
