Taxi drivers are being taught how to take care of their own health and cope with passengers in medical emergencies by staff at Shanghai Yodak Cardio-Thoracic Hospital.

Staff from Shanghai Dazhong Taxi Co were at the hospital following a rise in heart problems among the company’s drivers.

Zhang Guoqing said his profession had long working hours and many drivers had heart problems. “Lecture from doctors on heart health gives me important knowledge on health care,” Zhang said. “Moreover, we are also likely to receive some elderly passengers during work and it is useful for us to learn basic knowledge if the passenger suffers some emergency. With proper first-aid knowledge and ability, we may help save the person’s life.”

Drivers from Dazhong also visited children being treated at Yodak for congenital heart diseases.

The hospital and the taxi company signed an agreement to share resources and enhance cooperation.
