Medical experts warn parents to be alert for children’s injuries during summer holiday, which is traditionally the peak season for such injuries.

About 54,000 children die in accidents in China every year, and July and August are the deadliest months, officials said during a campaign to prevent and control children’s injuries at Fudan University’s Children’s Hospital on Friday.

The hospital said it received over 45,000 injury cases in 2017 and 2018, including 667 involving serious injuries.

Falls, burns, drowning and traffic accidents are the most prevalent injuries children suffer during summer holidays, officials said.

“Our hospital kicked off this campaign in 2018, when the first week of July each year is used to promote education on children’s injury prevention and first-aid training,” said Xu Hong, an official from Fudan University’s Children’s Hospital. “This year, we also launched an online course to promote education. An alliance consisting of the government, hospitals, schools, traffic authorities and media has been established to call for society’s awareness.”
