Over 100 children and volunteers painted a magical landscape on the walls of a new pediatric building of Xinhua Hospital.

The new building will begin trial operations on July 31 to accommodate the hospital's emergency and outpatient pediatric departments.

Children between 6 and 14 years old painted the new building with help from volunteer teachers. Half of the children have parents on Xinhua's medical staff and the rest were recruited from the public.

“The hospital building is always white and full of medical smells, which may scare children. We invited kids to paint the building into a colorful and lovely place, where they will feel relaxed while seeing a doctor,” said Cheng Ming, vice president of Xinhua Hospital.

Huang Ziheng, an 8-year-old girl, painted a huge blue whale on the wall. “It is an adventure story. Children can sit on the whale to swim in the deep sea. Seeing such an interesting story, children won’t feel anxious and scared when coming to the hospital,” she said.

The new building has areas for emergency and outpatient services, hospitalization services and scientific research.
