Fifty-one street parking lots introduced by police during the novel coronavirus outbreak will remain, Shanghai police said on Friday.

Those lots offer 1,800 parking spaces.

As more residents were driving due to the epidemic, a total of 125 such parking lots were opened in the first half of this year to relieve parking pressure.

The remaining parking lots, 74 in number with 2,566 slots, will be cancelled, police said.

By the end of last year, there were 1,796 street parking spots in Shanghai, mostly in downtown districts, which were offering 47,000 slots.

About 6 million cars operate on Shanghai streets daily, according to the police.

Police also say they will add 100 more taxi hailing stands around large public facilities in downtown districts and in nearby streets this year.
