State Grid Shanghai Co signed a memorandum of understanding with China Mobile for cooperation on new digital infrastructure projects and innovative 5G applications on July 16, marking a new milestone for the utility company’s progress in the digital field.

As Shanghai has been facilitating new digital infrastructure construction this year, State Grid is also upgrading the digitalization of its power system and deepening its innovations in technology, management and business.

The two companies will strengthen their partnership in terms of new infrastructure, intelligent manufacturing and information service. They will also cooperate in fields such as 5G, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet and provide guidance for intelligent information services.

“The cooperation will not only enhance market development and open new windows for growth, but also set a model for cross-industry innovation in the infrastructure field,” said Ruan Qiantu, director and general manager of State Grid Shanghai Co.

Since 2019, State Grid has renovated multiple substations of different voltage levels into 10 edge computing data stations, including the 35 kV Yinjiabang Substation in Zhangjiang, Pudong, which is the company’s first for Internet data center services.

With the support of the government, the company has also launched a collaborative big data lab, using data from different sources to create an innovative system for multiple scenarios.
