This year’s 12th solar term dashu, or great heat, will fall on Wednesday, the only sunny and hot day of the week at 35 degrees Celsius, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

The temperature on Monday will range between 25 and 28 degrees after a sultry Sunday, which reached 34.9 degrees, the benchmark Xujiahui weather station showed.

The mercury is expected to rise slightly on Tuesday, with Wednesday the peak. The 35 degrees will last for two days, then there will be three days of high temperatures at 31 degrees.

Thundershowers will continue as the city’s plum rain season has yet to finish.

As of Monday, it has been 42 days since the plum rain season began on June 9. The season of 2019 (33 days) was the longest in the past two decades.

The city’s netizens have commented: "I am going to plant the sun in the sky." And other said: “Raining in hot weather? It must be boiling water!”

But the bureau’s expert brings the good news that the season in the neighboring Zhejiang Province ended on Saturday, which means Shanghai is expected to say goodbye to the rain soon.
