Construction work starts on Tuesday to expand the Jinhai Road Campus of Shanghai Polytechnic University.

Construction to expand the campus of Shanghai Polytechnic University on Jinhai Road in the Pudong New Area started on Tuesday.

The expansion is the first large-scale construction project of the year at an educational institute in Shanghai.

The university said it now has more than 13,000 students and its current campuses cannot meet the needs of its continued development.

The project is expected to add 88,000 square meters of dormitory, canteen, teaching and extracurricular activity space.

The project is scheduled to be completed in September 2022.

Founded in 1960, Shanghai Polytechnic University is a public university boasting strengths in engineering and well-coordinated development in other disciplines including management, economics, literature, science and arts. It has cultivated thousands of technical professionals, represented by national model workers and outstanding inventors Bao Qifan and Li Bin. The university is honored as a model of China’s vocational education.
