Now at Haichang Ocean Park: dolphin calf and food festival
The first naturally bred Pacific white-sided dolphin in east China was born at Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park in the Pudong New Area and Sunday marked his 1-month birthday, park operators said.
In early July last year, animal keepers at the park spotted mating behavior among two Pacific white-sided dolphins. The mother, Yi Na, was taken care of and a comfortable delivery environment was created for her.
Yi Na had her temperature measured every day and nutrition was enhanced in her diet as well.
A natural delivery environment was created and the calf was born after a four-hour delivery at 5:30pm on July 2.
The dolphin calf is healthy and ready to greet visitors. He has yet to be given a name.
Meanwhile, a food event for the 2020 Shanghai Gourmet Festival kicked off at the park on Sunday. The event features speciality foods from various places like Shanghai palmier cookies, Wenzhou smoked chicken, Qingtian glutinous sweet cakes and Yunnan coffee, to name just a few.
The festival running through October 8 for families with children will also feature performances, games, music, Cosplay shows and lucky draws.
An herbal plant science event is also part of the festival, introducing TCM ingredients such as ageratum and herba eupatorii.
Tourist attractions like Shanghai Tower and Huangpu River cruises and hotel groups will offer ticketing packages to the festival.
