Ship crashes into Huangpu Riverbank in Xuhui

A cargo ship slammed into the Huangpu River bank on the West Bund in Xuhui District on Friday night, in a recurrence of a similar accident in the same place a year ago. No one was injured.
The vessel, "Hongpu 89", crashed into the embankment near Dongan Road at 8:50pm, damaging part of the riverbank, rails and pavement, the Xuhui District government said.
The area was sealed off to ensure the safety of citizens and tourists. The rest of the waterfront remained open.
The ship later departed the riverbank but is being held by the maritime authority for further investigation. The damaged riverside area is being repaired and will reopen to the public soon, the district said.
Many people were jogging or walking along the waterfront when the accident happened. Some took video footage and posted on social media such as Weibo and Wechat.
"I took my daughter to a rock climbing facility on the waterfront after dinner and we were shocked when the huge vessel sailed towards us and crashed into the bank," said a witness named Jonathon.
A similar accident occurred on the West Bund waterfront in June 2019, when two boats collided, sending one crashing into the embankment near Ruining Road. The inland vessel "Run" was later found responsible for the collision.
According to the website of Fuzhou Maritime Safety Administration, the "Hongpu 89" collided with another boat at the mouth of the Minjiang River in southwest Fujian Province in December 2017 after an engine malfunction. The 17 crew were uninjured.
Two passers-by are curious about the damage.
