Doctors and nurses transport hospitalized children and newborns to the new pediatric building at Xinhua Hospital.

Nearly 200 hospitalized children and newborn babies at Xinhua Hospital have been safely moved to its new pediatric building, the hospital said on Tuesday.

Among the newborns, 52 are being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit, including nine supported by intubated respiration machines and 10 with non-invasive breathing devices. These critically ill infants were the priority during Sunday's move, and they were transported first to ensure their safety, hospital officials said.

“The youngest is a 510-gram premature baby with several tubes attached to the body. We must act quickly while ensuring stability of all life-supporting systems. Nurses and doctors have practiced in drills many times already,” said Zhu Xiaodong, director of Xinhua Hospital’s NICU. “Each seriously ill child was escorted by two doctors and two nurses during the process. Though the route is only 200 meters, we must ensure zero mistakes during the procedure.”

All patients are in stable condition after the move, the hospital said.
