An exhibition kicks off at the Shanghai Archives to commemorate the 95th anniversary of the death of China’s famous revolutionary Sun Yat-sen.

An exhibition kicked off on Tuesday at the Shanghai Archives on the Bund to mark the 95th anniversary of the death of famed Chinese revolutionary Sun Yat-sen.

The show focuses on Sun’s activities and life in the city, according to the Shanghai Museum of Sun Yat-sen’s Former Residence, the organizer of the exhibition.

The first section of the exhibition shows historical sites and events related to Sun. These include the Wusong Estuary, where Sun landed in 1885 on his first visit to Shanghai, and the former residence of Soong Yaoru, who financially supported Sun’s revolution and eventually became Sun’s father-in-law.

A bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen presented by Shokichi Umeya, a Japanese who financially supported Sun's revolutionary activities for nearly 20 years, is on show.

The second section covers Sun's influence. There are artifacts about memorial activities, literature and artistic works in memory of him, such as news reports about his death, solicitations for designs of his tomb, a memorial song and stamps with his portrait.

The third part is about the inheritance and development of Sun’s spirit and ideas, with photos and artifacts showing how his proposals about China’s development have been realized in the past 95 years.

A vinyl record of “Song of the Prime Minister” kept by Sun’s wife Soong Ching Ling is displayed to the public for the first time.

The exhibition includes more than 200 objects and over 100 photos. Among them, about 30 are being displayed to the public for the first time. These include reference books used by Sun when writing his masterpiece “The International Development of China,” a vinyl record of “Song of the Prime Minister” kept by Sun’s wife Soong Ching Ling and a bronze statue of Sun presented by Shokichi Umeya, a Japanese who financially supported Sun's revolutionary activities over a period of nearly 20 years.

A seal used by Sun

Fifteen teenagers have been selected as special guides for the exhibition. During the exhibition, a series of short videos about 13 historical sites in Shanghai related to Sun will be produced.

The exhibition will run Monday to Saturday till November 12, on the third floor of the Shanghai Archives on 9 Zhongshang Road E2.
