8 new COVID-19 cases reported in Shanghai

Shanghai reported eight imported novel coronavirus cases on Tuesday while two patients were discharged from hospital upon recovery, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Wednesday morning.

The first patient is a Chinese working in the Philippines who arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on August 5.

The second patient is a Chinese who departed from Taiwan and arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on August 14.

The third patient is a Chinese working in Singapore who arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on August 15.

The fourth patient is a Chinese studying in the United States who arrived at the airport on August 16.

The fifth to the seventh patients are Chinese. Together with the eighth case, an Indian, the four patients left Britain on August 13, transferred via Russia on the same flight and arrived at the Pudong airport on August 14.

All the patients have been transferred to the designated hospital for treatment, while 90 close contacts on the planes have been put under quarantine and observation at designated places.

So far, of all the 508 imported cases, 419 have been discharged upon recovery and 89 are still hospitalized.

Three imported suspected cases are undergoing test.

No new locally transmitted or suspected cases were reported on Tuesday.

Of all the 342 local cases, 335 have been discharged upon recovery. There have been so far seven local fatalities.

No asymptomatic infection cases are undergoing medical observation now, the health commission said.
