Cutting-edge technologies like big data, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and robots are being introduced into rehabilitation research and services, medical experts told a training course in the city on Thursday.

A total of 100 medical students from all over the country participated in the course, both online or offline. Over 50 leading experts will give lectures, said Shanghai Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, an organizer of the course.

With the adoption of 5G technology, rehabilitation with multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary majors like big data and AI have brought reforms to the service, while modern use of traditional Chinese medicine also streamlines the effects of clinical rehabilitation.

Acupuncture and medicine combined with anesthesia during heart and lung surgery without tracheal intubation developed by the team of Dr Zhou Jia in Yueyang hospital was recognized as a new technology by local health authority in June.

Through clinical trials and data collection, it is promoted as China's original new technology for wide clinical use for its effects of easing trauma, lessening anesthetic use in surgery, quickening recovery and rehabilitation, shortening hospitalization days and lowering medical burdens, experts said.
