No injuries in Metro dry ice incident: police

In a recent Metro incident, three bottles of dry ice suddenly erupted into gas while being carried by a passenger, but no one was injured, Shanghai police said on Thursday.
The incident took place at Shanghai South Railway Station on Metro Line 1 at 9:47am on August 11.
The passenger, a man surnamed Wu, carried with him a foam box with crabs and three plastic bottles of dry ice inside. He told police that he bought the crabs in Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, and carried them to Shanghai.
As Wu walked toward Exit 4 of the Metro station, the foam box and the dry ice bottles suddenly broke, releasing a large cloud of gas fumes and a startling noise.
No one was injured in the incident, and the operation of the Metro station was not affected, police said.
After being questioned by police, Wu was let go.
The Shanghai Metro doesn’t ban dry ice, which is a solid form of carbon dioxide that is used to keep food fresh during long-distance transportation.
Police warn Metro passengers that if they carry dry ice, they shouldn’t put it in small sealed containers.
