13 new COVID-19 cases reported in Shanghai

The city reported 13 imported novel coronavirus cases on Friday, said the Shanghai Health Commission on Saturday morning.

The first 10 patients — nine Chinese and a Briton — departed from the UK or Turkey on August 13, transferred via Russia on the same flight and arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport on August 14.

The 11th and the 12th patients are Chinese working in South Sudan and Ethiopia who transferred to the same flight and arrived at the Shanghai airport on August 18.

The 13th patient is a Chinese working in Ecuador who arrived at the airport on August 19.

All the new patients have been transferred to a designated hospital for treatment, while 196 close contacts on the planes have been put under quarantine and observation at designated places.

Meanwhile, six patients were discharged from hospital upon recovery, 

So far, of all the 533 imported cases, 448 have been discharged upon recovery and 85 are still hospitalized.

One imported suspected case is undergoing test.

No new locally transmitted or suspected cases were reported on Friday.

Of all the 342 local cases, 335 have been discharged upon recovery. There have been so far seven local fatalities.

No asymptomatic infection cases are undergoing medical observation now, the health commission said.
