The city's market watchdog has enhanced the supervision and management of cold-chain foods with the target of 100 percent information registration and uploading to ensure food safety for the upcoming third China International Import Expo.

The Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation has ordered cold-chain food producers and operation businesses to complete electronic file registration on the city's food safety information tracking platform, and upload  food safety tracking information for frozen meat and aquatic products.

The goal is 100 percent coverage, the administration said.

It has ordered cold-chain food producers and operation businesses to record and keep information of food and material procurement checks and sales.

Cold-chain food producers and operation businesses are ordered to check the inspection and quarantine certificate of imported meat and aquatic products. Meat-processing companies should also check nucleic acid test results when receiving imported animal meat.

Poultry and aquatic products that have expired, are spoiled or lack quarantine certificates are banned from processing and sales, the administration said.

Companies should upload procurement and sales information of imported cold chain foods to the city's food safety information tracking platform to ensure they can be tracked.

Disinfection at key food food business venues and processes should be enhanced, together with health management of food industry workers.

Hand hygiene of food industry staffers should be stepped up as well.
