Dr Zhang Wenhong, an infectious diseases expert at Huashan Hospital and head of Shanghai's expert team for coronavirus treatment, and He Jie, a local TV anchor, have been honored as ambassadors for the Healthy Shanghai Campaign on Thursday.

“It is an honor to become this ambassador, as I will further promote health education and knowledge, to help improve public awareness of health care and disease prevention,” Zhang said. “The success in dealing with the novel coronavirus epidemic in the city has shown the importance of public involvement in disease prevention and control.”

When the Healthy Shanghai Campaign was launched in July last year the city became the first in the country to issue such a plan to boost and lead health care, local officials said.

“Shanghai remains in a leading position in health care in China. The average life expectancy is 83.66 years old, infant mortality is 3.06 among every 1,000 and mortality of pregnant women is 3.51 in every 100,000. All data have been in line with developed countries and regions for years,” said Wu Jinglei, director of the Shanghai Health Commission.
