Starting Friday, passengers at Jinshan Railway Station can scan transport QR codes on their phones to pass the turnstiles.

Travelers at Jinshan Railway Station are now able to scan QR codes to take trains, said city’s Transport Card Company on Friday.

It is the first city railway station in China to accept the new QR-code payment method, along with traditional transport cards and tickets.

After upgrades and testing, the new entrances can support united transport cards issued by different cities. Passengers can also enjoy transfer discounts within two hours.

QR-code payment has already been introduced to Metro trains, buses and ferries across the city. Passengers can activate the codes through the app of Shanghai Transport Card, Alipay, Wechat and UnionPay.

According to the Transport Card Company, the new payment method is expected to be applied to more railways in the Yangtze River Delta region to further facilitate transportation between outlying regions and central areas.
