Dongtai City promotes tourism, secures deals

The city of Dongtai in neighboring Jiangsu Province has launched a monthlong promotion campaign in Shanghai to display its culture and tourism to Shanghai residents and beef up its integration into the Yangtze River Delta region. 

Twelve agreements were signed in Shanghai on Tuesday by authorities and tourist attractions in Dongtai with travel agencies and companies in Shanghai and Jiangsu.

Among them, the Dongtai City Administration of Culture, Radio and Tourism inked a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai-based online travel operator Lvmama, and the Dongtai City Xixi scenic area signed a deal with Shanghai-based hotel chain management group Huazhu.  

Anfeng Town, Xinjie Town and Zhendong Town of Dongtai also inked deals related to scenic area management, investment and agriculture in Shanghai.

The city will host a number of online and offline tourism activities such as webcasts and displays during the promotional month, the Dongtai City government said in Shanghai. 

The Yancheng-Nantong high-speed railway, which stops in Dongtai and opens to traffic at the end of this year, will make travel to Dongtai more convenient, said Sun Yanchun, vice mayor of the city. 

"Dongtai's rich ecological tourism resources have made the city a popular destination for Shanghai tourists, and it has developed a variety of ecological and health tourism itineraries which have boosted its tourism development," said Yu Xiufen, director of the Shanghai Administration of Culture and Tourism.

"The integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region has further cut the distance between Dongtai and Shanghai, bringing more cooperation opportunities for the two cities," she said. 

Dongtai is home to the Yellow Sea National Forestry Park and the Tiaozini Wetland, a habitat for more than 8 million migratory birds of over 400 species every year.
