Mayor Gong meets Cuban ambassador to China
Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernandez, Cuba’s ambassador to China, in Shanghai on August 31.
This year is the 60th anniversary of the establishment of foreign affairs relationship between China and Cuba. The ties have kept improving over the years along with sound bilateral trade relations between the two countries, Gong said.
As the largest economic city in China, Shanghai serves as an important bridge between China and Cuba, and “we have had wide contact with the Cuban side, including sister city Santiago de Cuba, over the years,” Gong added.
“We will carry out cooperation on a wider and deeper level and welcome enterprises from Cuba to join the 3rd China International Import Expo in November,” he noted.
“The relationship between Cuba and China is at the best of all time, and we are grateful for the support from China in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Cuba, and we hope to further develop bilateral ties with the 60th anniversary of foreign affairs relationship as a starting point,” Pereira Hernandez replied.
Nestor Enrique Torres Olivera, consul general of Cuba in Shanghai, joined the meeting.
