People learn about the city's charity programs at Shanghai Gongyi Xintiandi, a government-subsidized charity program park in Huangpu District.

A month of charity activities got underway on Saturday with the opening of the Shanghai philanthropy partnership month.

A variety of charity activities such as forum, salons, charity bazaars and photo exhibitions will be held, the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said.

At Shanghai Gongyi Xintiandi, a government-subsidized charity program park in Huangpu District, a charity program exhibition was staged on Saturday morning. It hosted about 30 foundations.

Shanghai Fu Shou Yuan Public Welfare Foundation featured several projects at the event. One of the projects, originating from 1995, provides free burial and funeral services to impoverished families and seniors without relatives. A total of 1,274 households have benefited.

The foundation also introduced its donor memorial garden in memory of those who donated their organs to the Red Cross, as well as eco-friendly and land saving burials.

Fu Shou Yuan, a funeral and interment service provider and cemetery operator, has donated more than 400 million yuan (US$58 million) in areas like charity and relief and life education over the past 26 years.

The foundation also hosted a salon on the role of life services and culture in social governance on Saturday.

"The event offers a window into the city's charity programs, which is meaningful," said visitor Chen Min, a white collar worker.

At Sinan Mansions in Huangpu, a three-day charity bazaar opened on Friday night.

It hosts more than 40 social organizations, and features a variety of activities such as installation art production, art donation and charity sales, art and science and technology experiences, and charity performances.

Sachets and handicraft works from autistic children and disabled people are displayed.

"I have learnt about charity projects related to special groups of children here, which is good," said Shanghai resident Zhang Fangli, 33.

Zhang strolled the bazaar with her daughter Lu Yuting, 7. They made donations and bought sachets.

"I am happy to make donations and help other children," said Lu.

Zhang added: "It is the first time that I have visited such a bazaar with charity purposes and it is both loving and fun."
