Shanghai a top national holiday destination

Shanghai will be one of the top 10 popular destinations for Chinese tourists during the upcoming National Day holiday. 

The others are Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Qingdao and Xi’an, based on data from 350 domestic cities, Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday, citing mapping and navigation provider Amap. 

Searches for tourist attractions in Shanghai, Chengdu and Xi'an soared more than 40 percent recently, the report said.

Domestic tourism has been recovering rapidly in recent months, it said. 

Short-distance self-driving tourism gained in popularity in the past three months with the number of Amap users driving to neighboring cities surging 50 percent in August from June, according to the report. 

People are making more use of online reservations in pursuit of quality and convenient journeys, the report said. 

The holiday is from October 1 to 8.
