Seniors show creative side in classic art cosplay
Seniors at the Yangpu District Social Welfare Home had a fun cosplay by playing characters in some of the world's most famous paintings.
In their 70s, 80s and 90s, these seniors displayed their imitation skills to replicate classic images such as "Girl with a Pearl Earring" and "The Scream."
The social welfare home made a short video of the event and released it on Douyin, it said on Friday.
The makeup and shooting were done by professional teams.
"I am already 85, but I never expected one day I would play such a character," Shan Yanhui, a senior at the home, told Shanghai Daily.
"I feel like I am a movie star," she said with a grin. "After makeup, I could not recognize myself."
"I drew inspiration from the gesture of the cameraman and the shooting process was smooth," she said. "It was really interesting."
"Many seniors at our home sing, dance and learn to use Douyin from nursing staff to enrich their life after retirement," said Qiao Yihao, deputy director of the home.
"We want to create opportunities for them to display themselves and show their wonderful life at senior homes," he said.

"Residents of our homes like watching Douyin but they don't know how to make short videos. We also found there is not enough content on Douyin related with the elderly," said Qiao.
"It inspired us to create a special program for them."
"Many seniors at our home are expressive and creative, and we want to change the stereotypes of the public toward them," he added.
