The 15th Shanghai International Photography Exhibition opened at the Maoma Warehouse in Yangpu District on Friday, the first day of this year’s Shanghai International Photography Festival.

The exhibition's theme is “Future Meets the Shanghai View" and aims to show what photography brings to life and how it will develop in the future.

It will be open to the public from Saturday to October 7 and tickets can book free tickets on the "shwenlian" WeChat account.

“It is a sharing platform for the artists and the public,” Wang Hao, deputy head of Yangpu District, said at the opening ceremony on Friday.

The biennial exhibition, organized by the Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Shanghai Photographers Association, began in 1986. It was China’s first large-scale international photography exhibition and now one of the most influential.

During this year’s event, activities will include academic seminars and lectures, a bazaar and cultural performance.

Over 400 artworks, including 10 videos and outdoor installations, from 54 domestic and foreign artists are on display, selected from nearly 3,500 artworks from around 240 artists.

“It is incredible to organize such an exhibition during the novel coronavirus pandemic,” exhibition planner Ao Guoxing said. “We spent over three months on it, especially consulting with the foreign artists who could not come to Shanghai during the outbreak.”

Maleonn, 48, brought his “Studio Mobile” photographs to the exhibition.

The Shanghai artist established a studio with retro equipment with his team. They spent nearly a year taking photos of 1,600 people in 35 cities in China.
