Shanghai conductor Zhao Xiao’ou leads the riverside concert.

A riverside concert in Yangpu District on Tuesday evening raised the curtain on this year’s Art Space session of the Shanghai International Arts Festival.

The concert, presented by Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of local conductor Zhao Xiao’ou, featured tenors Shi Yijie, Zhao Yue and soprano Gong Shuang.

The concert included “Dein ist mein ganzes Herz” from Lehar’s “Das Land des Lachelns,” "La donna e mobile” from “Rigoletto,” “Glitter and Be Gay” from “Candide” and domestic opera selections.

The concert was one of the 12 open-air performances Art Space has prepared for Shanghai’s art followers in the following month. The 22nd Shanghai International Arts Festival has been postponed to next year due to the coronavirus, though a few sessions, including the Art Space, will go on.

Other recommendations include a contemporary dance performance by young dancer Hu Shenyuan on October 20, a horse-head string instrument concert on October 23, musical “King’s Secret” by Russia's Kiters Dance Studio on October 24 and Kunqu Opera prince Zhang Jun’s concert on October 25.

The performances will be held at the Shanghai City Lawn Music Plaza in Huangpu District.
