The Simple Life Festival was staged on a ship berthed at the Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal.

Some 4,000 music fans attended the 2020 Simple Life Festival this weekend, which was staged on a ship docked at the Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal on the North Bund.

The music festival featured a crossover line-up of pop, rock and balladeer musicians. In cooperation with China Shanghai International Arts Festival, the two-day event invited Shanghai Light Music Orchestra, as well as artists such as tenor Han Peng and soprano Xu Xiaoying, to join the pop stars.

“It’s the first time I have shared a stage with pop star singers,” said Han, who started his performance on Saturday with the famous Italian opera song “O Sole Mio.”

“I always favor crossover performances," he added. "I follow pop music myself, and this stage brings me closer to the audience.”

Yang Jialu, vice president of China Shanghai International Arts Festival Center, said the festival’s cooperation with Simple Life will continue next year.

“Simple Life has many young followers, and the cooperation allows us to introduce classical music to them,” she said. “It will also help attract more young audiences to our Arts Festival.”

It was the first time for Simple Life to set up a stage on a ship berthed on the Huangpu River, borrowing the landscape of Pudong’s Lujiazui area as backdrop.

Although this year's capacity went from 20,000 to no more than 4,000 because of the coronavirus, the organizers maintained food service and set up a handicraft and innovative production fair.
