The weekend and workdays during the 3rd China International Import Expo (CIIE) won’t be exchanged like in previous editions due to limitations on visitor volumes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of coronavirus prevention measures, the entry times of visitors will be staggered. Reservation is required, and limitation on entries will be imposed to control the number of visitors.

Under such measures, attendee flows to the CIIE are expected to have less impact on the surrounding traffic, so workdays won’t be adjusted to rest days, the city government said on its official WeChat account.

The 3rd CIIE will run from November 5 and 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Qingpu District.

During the previous CIIE in 2019, both the opening day (November 5, a Tuesday) and the previous day were adjusted to rest days to relieve traffic pressure, while the two Saturdays before and after the event became workdays.

The city government also released a public health protection notice on Monday, as the CIIE coincides with the high-occurrence season of flu and other respiratory infectious diseases, the government said.

Citizens are reminded to wear masks, wash hands frequently, keep ventilating the indoor air and avoid gathering.

The city government has released a general COVID-19 prevention plan for the 3rd CIIE.

All overseas visitors attending the event must undergo a 14-day quarantine in designated hotels along with multiple tests.

The attendees from abroad will be subject to the city’s strict “closed-loop” management, which has been proved effective in the management of overseas arrivals amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, the city government said.

Overseas participants are also required to conduct a 14-day self-health observation before their entry to China.

Upon arrival, they must complete the health declaration as well as receive a temperature check and the nucleic acid test. Custom officers may board aircraft to conduct inspections.

Only those passing the tests and completing the quarantine can be released and participate in the CIIE.

All participants and staff in the exhibition zone must take a nucleic acid test. Those who need to enter the exhibition areas between October 24 and November 2 as well as November 3 and 12 must have a COVID-19 negative certificate received within seven days, according to the stipulation.

The capacity of the exhibition halls will be limited to 30 percent of its maximum during the expo.
