A post office in Minhang turned itself into a tribute to China's space achievements on April 24, Space Day in China. The day, first designated in 2016, marks the anniversary of the nation's first satellite launch in 1970.

The post office shed its normal green décor, replacing it with decorations of blue, white and silver. The mailbox in the facility was changed into a shape like a re-entry capsule.

Souvenirs were offered for sale, including memorial envelope and postcard sets, astronaut "blind boxes," badges, stamps, mugs and aircraft models.

More items will be added in the future.

A photo backdrop has also been set up in the post office to allow visitors to take astronaut-related pictures. There is a section displaying China's aerospace, including models of the Dongfanghong-1, the nation's first satellite.

"This is a window for us to promote aerospace achievements to the public," said Cheng Jingjun, head of the post office.

Minhang has played a role in those achievements. It participated in the development of several Changzheng rockets and the Tianwen-1 Mars probe mission.

In 2008, Aerospace City in the district went into operation, housing the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology and other research units.
