The world’s first giant panda cub (top) with both captive and wild parents is checked at the Hetaoping semi-wild training base in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. Cao Cao (above) gave birth at 2:17am on Monday, the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda said yesterday. In a bid to increase the genetic diversity of the captive stock, Cao Cao was released into the wild on March 1 and lived there for nearly two months. The female cub weighed 216 grams, compared with a normal newborn’s weight of about 150g.
