High-level inspector punished for serious violations of Party rules

Zhang Huawei, a former vice-ministerial level inspector, has been expelled from the Party due to “serious violations of the Party’s code of conduct,” according to the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) website today.

The illegal gains of Zhang, a former inspector of the central inspection teams, have been confiscated. Clues and evidence pertaining to his alleged crimes have been handed over to judicial organs for further investigation, CCDI said.

Zhang was found to have seriously violated Party rules and regulations. He abused his power as an inspector to interfere in the affairs of other companies or government organizations over a long period of time, and illegally attended banquets and accepted cars as gifts. He also abused his power to seek benefits for others and was suspected of taking bribes.

Zhang led the inspections of several institutions, including China's General Administration of Sport and the China Huadian Corporation.
