Japanese police have confirmed through DNA testing that the body found on a beach in Kushiro, Hokkaido, on August 27, is the Chinese teacher who went missing on July 23.

Police conveyed the result to the Chinese Consulate-general in Sapporo today, according to the consulate-general’s website.

Consul-general Sun Zhenyong has left for Kushiro to handle the incident.

Wei Qiujie, a 27-year-old Chinese teacher, had been traveling alone in Hokkaido before her family reported her missing on July 23.

Wei arrived in Sapporo, Japan, from Shaowu City, Fujian Province, on July 18. She left her hotel on July 22 and never came back. Her family have been unable to contact her ever since.

Police are still investigating the incident.
