China's high speed trains offer cargo service for online shopping holiday
Guangzhou Railway Corporation will start a ten-day high speed train cargo service to ease the logistic bottleneck following the Singles Day shopping festival on Saturday.
Usually high speed trains only transport passengers. From Nov. 11 to 20, 35 a day will have one or more carriages assigned to products sold online.
On the weekends -- Nov. 11, 12, 18 and 19, -- the company will increase the number of high speed trains to meet higher passengers flow.
China's Singles Day falls on Nov. 11 every year when e-commerce platforms and online sellers offer big discounts and other promotions.
The corporation arranged 24 high speed trains transporting 48 tonnes of cargo every day during last year's Singles Day period, which greatly increased delivery speed and lowered costs.
