Woman, 42, uses makeup skills to cheat boyfriend out of 6m yuan
A 42-year-old woman in Shenzhen pretended to be a young woman in her 20s using her makeup skills, cheating her boyfriend out of over 6 million yuan (US$1 million), the local public security bureau said.
All three names in this article are aliases, as supplied by police.
The man's brother, Li Daqing, went to Pingshan police station on March 22 and said his younger brother, Li Xiaoqing, fell in love with a woman, known as Wang Sanjie, after they met at a foot massage parlor in 2015.
Xiaoqing was born in 1988 while Wang said she was born in 1990.
During their relationship, Wang coaxed Xiaoqing into transferring money to invest in a high-return property company.
She also fabricated other reasons for needing money, including an operation for her mother who suffered from cerebral hemorrhage.
From 2016 to 2017, Xiaoqing made more than 150 transfers to Wang, totaling over 7 million yuan. During the process, Wang returned over 1 million yuan, which she claimed to be the "dividends" from the investment.
Daqing discovered a large sum of money missing from their family business and soon found out why after he asked his younger brother, who was in charge of the business’s finances.
To prevent Xiaoqing from being cheated further, he reported the case to police.
After an investigation, police discovered Wang had lied about her identity and was actually born in 1976.
Members of the boyfriend's family couldn't recognize the woman in her ID photo as she always met them while wearing heavy makeup, totally different from the middle-aged woman in the photo.
After great effort, police finally caught up with Wang at a rental house on April 3.
Wang confessed to police and said she had a gambling addiction but no steady income, leading to her cheating Xiaoqing out of the money.
Wang has been detained by police and further investigation is ongoing.
