Kids' breakfast and flight times key in family travel: reports

Museums, ocean parks, zoos and universities are the most popular destinations for parent-child tours, reports by various travel agencies revealed on Children's Day.
Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou are the top three cities in terms of the number of parent-child tour travelers. Average spending for a single parent-child trip was 3,930 yuan (US$614) among Shanghai tourists in the first five months of this year, according to a report by Shanghai-based Ctrip.
Parents pay more attention to the quality of trips compared with other travelers, and nearly half of all parent-child tour travelers choose luxury hotels, the report said.
Children's breakfast, amusement facilities, the time of flights, pick-up services and extra beds are some of the most mentioned demands.
About 89.7 percent of Ctrip's users with children traveled with their kids in the past year, with 49 percent of children aged between 6 and 14 years of age.
More than one-third of tour orders were from parent-child travelers in the first half of this year, posing a significant rise compared with the same period last year. Customized tours are particularly gaining popularity among the group, the online travel operator said.
Travel review website Mafengwo said the popularity of parent-child tours jumped 21 percent in May compared with April based on its search results because of Children's Day and the approaching summer vacation.
Museums have become the new "wanghong" (Internet celebrity) in the parent-child tourism market, with their popularity boosted by documentary "Masters in Forbidden City" and variety show "National Treasure," a report by Mafengwo revealed.
The Shaanxi History Museum, Suzhou Museum, Nanjing Museum and National Museum of China are among the most popular, according to the report.
Ocean parks and zoos such as Chimelong Ocean Kingdom and Laohutan Ocean Park are also favored by family tour travelers, while Bali, Singapore and Osaka are the most popular overseas destinations, the website said.
