China's political advisors gathered Monday in Beijing to offer suggestions for the country's pollution control work.

China should step up efforts to win the battle against pollution and tackle key environmental issues, said Wang Yang, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, who presided over the opening meeting of the third session of the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC National Committee.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, urged political advisors to pool their wisdom on ways to protect the environment and build a beautiful China.

Vice Premier Han Zheng was invited to the meeting to make a report on pollution control and exchange with the political advisors.

Han, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that China should implement action plans to control air, water, and soil pollution, and hold accountable those with environmental violations.

The session is scheduled from August 20 to 22 in Beijing.
