Didi Chuxing, the largest ride-hailing company in China, said that from September 27, drivers will receive random facial recognition checks between orders in addition to the routine pre-service daily facial recognition checks. Only those who passed the check can continue to take orders.

The company also said its customer service department has formed a special group to timely assist law enforcement agencies so that the police can get the information they want more efficiently when disputes happen.

Meanwhile, Didi is developing new functions that it claims will reduce the risks for minors traveling alone. For now, passengers under the age of 18 will be reminded to travel with an adult.

The company has been under fire for its security breaches and incapability to weed out unqualified drivers. Shanghai’s traffic authority has inspected the company three times to urge them to sack unqualified drivers and establish a long-term mechanism to better manage and monitor the cars and operations.
