'Online Police' platform a hi-tech success

Last year Binjiang District Police Bureau launched an “Online Police” program that adopted big data and artificial intelligence technology to help crack down on criminals and search for missing persons.

Within one year of operation, the program has helped the district cut down on 18 percent of criminal cases, lowered 68.5 percent of gambling, prostitution and drug abuse cases, and caught up with 277 wanted persons.

The initiative has also found 252 missing persons.

Binjiang District Police Bureau worked together with local high-tech companies to build up this successful platform. Hangzhou has proved time-after-time it is a hub for hi-tech companies, business and progress on building a smart city through big data.
