College football league holds awards ceremony

The awards ceremony for the 2018 Shanghai College Football League was held at Shanghai University of Sport on Sunday.

Organized by the Shanghai Sports Bureau, the Shanghai Education Commission and the Shanghai United Media Group, the league held a total of 167 matches in five groups, involving 65 teams representing 42 schools, over the past month.

The Donghua University men’s team won both the Campus Group and the Super Group. Shanghai Industry and Commerce Foreign Language College was crowned in the Vocational School Group. Teams representing Shanghai University and Shanghai University of Sport became the champions of the Women’s Group A and Women’s Group B, respectively.

Top scorers and best coaches of the five groups were given trophies during the ceremony.

Coming into its fifth year, the Shanghai College Football League aims to enhance grassroots football and promote the spirit of sportsmanship among students.

Shanghai Football Association president Zhu Guanghu and former Shanghai Greenland Shenhua head coach Wu Jingui also attended the event. Wu said he worked as a college coach for eight years in Zhejiang Province before becoming a professional club coach.

“For coaches, colleges have great resources, including frontline coaching theories and ideas. University students are usually quick learners. College coaches should keep an open mind and they have a great chance of becoming professional coaches in the future.”
