A total of 18 suspects, including the head of a Tianjin-based Chinese herbal medicine company, have been detained by police following an investigation, a local news portal reported on Monday.

Shu Yuhui, the boss of Quanjian Nature Medicine Technology Development Co, is under criminal detention, tjyun.com reported.

The company was investigated by police for suspected pyramid sales and false advertising after an article circulated on WeChat accused it of making misleading claims about “fire therapy” and its traditional medicines, and causing the death of a girl.
