School worker detained for injuring 20 primary school children in Beijing

A man injured 20 children at a primary school in Beijing's Xicheng District on Tuesday, the distirict's information office said.

The incident happened around 11:17am at No.1 Affiliated Elementary School of Xuanwu Normal School.

According to the initial investigation, the suspect surnamed Jia, 49, is from Heilongjiang Province and a dispatch service worker in responsible for daily maintenance work at the school, CCTV reported.

The service company hasn't renewed Jia's contract as it is due in January. Jia vented on students by attacking them with a hammer.

Jia has been detained by the police. The case is under further investigation. 

The injured children were rushed to hospital, three of whom were seriously injured but are in a stable condition.
