No Chinese were injured in an armed robbery at a hotel in Peru, the Chinese Embassy in Peru said on its website on Thursday.

A total of 41 tourists from a Hong Kong tour group were staying at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica in Madre de Dios when the robbery happened on the evening of February 19, 2019, the embassy said.

Around 10 armed robbers killed a Peruvian tour guide and took valuables before fleeing. One Chinese had his passport snatched, the statement said.

Local police have mobilized a large number of officers to hunt for the suspects, the embassy said.

The embassy said it has urged Peruvian police to ensure the safety of Chinese tourists and will follow the incident closely.
