Lawmaker nabbed over cards, massage

A lawmaker in a southwestern village was put under police control after a video of him playing cards and enjoying a foot massage by a female colleague went viral online, the People’s Daily reported Wednesday.

Wei Donghai, a deputy in the People’s Congress of Yizhou District in Hechi City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was placed under criminal coercive measures, the report said, without mentioning charges.

The alleged misconduct of Wei, also the former Party chief of Longtou Village in Yizhou District, was revealed after a video of him smoking, playing cards with cash scattered on the table and enjoying a foot massage from a woman was posted online on April 15, the report said.

The woman was later identified as Wang Juan, deputy director of Longtou Village, according to the report.

The disciplinary watchdog of Yizhou District announced on April 16 that Wei and Wang had been removed from their posts.
