Shanghai Pingtan Troupe’s “Blossoms” will be performed at the new Tea House Theater in Hong Kong's Xiqu Center from Tuesday to June 3.

Tickets for the eight performances were sold out two weeks ago. It is the first time Shanghai Pingtan Troupe has presented a modern opera in Hong Kong.

Adapted from an award-winning Shanghai dialect novel by Jin Yucheng, the play is centered on the stories of people living from the 1960s to 1990s in Shanghai.

Pingtan artist Gao Bowen will work with young performers including Huang Haihua and Wu Jinghui.

With a history of around 400 years, pingtan is a form of storytelling in the Suzhou dialect, set to music.
