Man detained over brutal attack on woman

A man accused of beating and molesting a woman on a street in Dalian City in the northeastern province of Liaoning has been detained, police said in an online statement Tuesday night.

The 31-year-old suspect surnamed Wang is accused of brutally assaulting a woman he met on the street on the early morning of June 22 after he had been drinking and fought with his girlfriend, police said, adding Wang confessed.

The gruesome attack was videotaped by a surveillance camera and uploaded online, drawing widespread anger among netizens.

The man was filmed repeatedly kicking the woman in her head, ripping off her clothes and dragging her away after she became unconscious.

The woman suffered facial soft tissue injuries and has been discharged from hospital, police said.
