Accounting firm PwC published a statement on WeChat on Monday, saying the mimicking of its visual designs and colors in an unauthorized notice was misleading the public.

The notice, using official company branding, formats, colors and fonts, urged company staff to join the general strike planned for Monday. But it had been sent without official authorization.

"PwC hopes that Hong Kong is a society of peace and safety, and as one of the important international financial centers, it can continue to develop prosperously," the company said in the statement.

"We fully respect the right of citizens' freedom of speech, but we deeply regret the destructive effects of the recent violence on social peace and order."

"The safety of our employees is critical to PwC," it added.
