Thick yellow smoke was seen rising after a gas leak caused by a huge cave-in on a street in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in eastern China, CCTV reported Wednesday.

The cave-in which happened around 10:30am at Jianguo Road N. was caused by the ongoing construction of Metro Line 5, local district government said, according to Qianjiang Evening News. 

The collapse crushed the gas pipes buried underground, the report said.

So far no casualties have been reported. People have been evacuated from surrounding areas and the section of the road cordoned off, CCTV said.

The gas company has shut down four gas valves.

Growing cracks were seen on a residential building nearby. Residents are being evacuated, local newspaper Dushikuaibao reported.
