"Gemini Man," an upcoming American science fiction action film directed by Oscar award-winning director Ang Lee, is set to open in Chinese mainland theaters on Oct. 18, the film's official Weibo account announced Monday.

The movie stars Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a younger clone of himself that seemingly can predict his every move.

The worldwide release of "Gemini Man" is set for early October, with a U.S. theatrical release on Oct. 11.

Ang Lee won the Academy Award for Best Director twice, in 2013 for "Life of Pi" and in 2006 for "Brokeback Mountain."
