A collapse at a construction site near a Metro station in southeast China's Xiamen City in Fujian Province on Thursday night engulfed two cars. There have been no reports of casualties.

The incident happened at 9:52pm on a road near the Lucuo station on Line 2 causing a sinkhole of around 500 square meters, according to operator Amoy Transit Rail.

A surveillance camera captured the moment the sinkhole opened up, swallowing two cars driving through the area at the time. The occupants managed to get out safely. A water pipe was damaged due to the cave-in, AMTR said.

Line 2 was due to begin operation before the end of the month with the Lucuo station a transfer station between Lines 1 and 2. Trains on Line 1 were halted after the incident but normal operations resumed around 11am.

A passenger on Line 1 told National Business Daily that just after 10am there was an announcement to say Lucuo station was out of action and he saw that the station was flooded when the train passed through.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation, the Metro operator said.

Earlier this month, there was a collapse on a road where Metro Line 11 was under construction in south China's Guangzhou city, engulfing a cleaning vehicle and an electric scooter, leaving three people still unaccounted for.
